The questions of language policy and specifities of language situation in Ukraine; factors, social-political situation in the country which caused the character of language policy are considered in the paper. Sociolinguistic aspects of the renaming processes in Ukraine are considered in the paper as well within the context of new legislation; was carried out the case study.
