The process of information technologies improving and increasing their productivity in the stock market is the reason for the design of new investment tools. This work focuses on one of such tools - Exchange-traded funds abbreviated as “ETFs”, which are widespread throughout the world but remain not recognized in the Russian private investment market. This work seeks to show the potential attractiveness (effectiveness of investments) of ETFs in the Russian stock market for a retail investor who adheres to a passive investment strategy. The methodology includes the construction of a regression model and modeling of the investment portfolio. The study broadens the knowledge about the impact of efficiency parameters of ETFs on its closing price and finding the optimal percentage of ETFs in the portfolio, which a passive retail investor needs to have in order to increase its personal capital.
