Subjective perception of time is an exciting research topic that lies at the border of physiology, neuroscience and philosophy. A global assumption is that the time experience relates to the amount of information perceived. For example, according to Ornstein theory, a larger density of information leads to an increase in the subjective judgement of the amount of time passed. This effect depends on the individual memory capacity and the information processing speed. Based on the literature overview and the predictive coding principle from information theory following the lines of the original Helmholtz ideas casting the brain as a predicting machine and further developed by K. Friston the following hypothesis was proposed: subjective time duration will be longer for unfamiliar musical sequences than for the familiar ones. We expect that this effect will be more pronounced for longer pieces than for the shorter ones.
