At present Russia has ambitious goals: to become one of the five best economies in the world. In this regard, the President has formulated one of his "May decrees" - to ensure productivity growth at medium and large enterprises from 5% per year. It has become clear that the existing ways of increasing labor productivity need to be re-evaluated and updated, and the country is in need of innovative measures of state incentives. The study demonstrates that "lean" production is one of the key processes for improving the productivity and efficiency of the company. It is the lean concept that underlies the project of targeted support for improving productivity. However, this study proves that the project has its drawbacks and can be improved. By involving enterprises with state participation in the project, it is possible to significantly increase overall labor productivity indicators, increase the competitiveness of enterprises ' products, support employment in the regions and create a management reserve at the regional level. An increase in the total GDP of the country has been proved, as a result of the successful improvement of the project. The results obtained might provide a useful basis for practical activities.
