Gratitude Phenomenon: Subject's and Recipient's Perspectives

The phenomenon of gratitude has not been studied very widely previously despite its widespread use and the positive effects on mental health and satisfaction with life of receiving and expressing it. The general purpose of this paper is to study features of the person who is in the role of either the subject or recipient of gratitude. The focus will be on expressing gratitude and egocentrism. The subjects will be asked to complete 3 gratitude questionnaires, egocentrism scale and to answer two critical questions to measure the gratitude roles: How often do other people thank you, How often do you thank other people. The sample includes 191 participants (154 women, 37 men). The results will provide information about gratitude roles and their connection with egocentrism. The hypothesis was partially confirmed. The results can be useful for everyone especially for psychotherapists work to improve well-being and satisfaction with life by developing and switching between gratitude roles.
