The thesis addresses the art of Pavel Fedorovich Nikonov over the period from 1980s to the present day. The artist’s creativity has repeatedly become the subject of researches by Russian art historians, but current period is considered for the first time. The study examines the process of formation and development of the Russian countryside’s images. The systematic research method made it possible to collect all available sources and combine it in one work. The formal-stylistic method was chosen to determine the artistic language of the artist and identification several stages of development in his work. The author of this thesis makes an attempt for a multifaceted study of P. F. Nikonov and comes to the conclusion that images of the Russian countryside remains relevant not only for the creativity of the studied artist, but also for modern Russian culture.
