Religious Components of Ideological Conflicts in Contemporary Public Politics in European Democracies

In this dissertation, we attempted to explain the current political processes in the public politics of European democracies using the example of the “state of emergency” caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We found out that there is a direct mutual relationship between the level of the subject of politics and his narrative, which uses inherent religious arguments: the governments of democracies use the “state of emergency” as the messianic argument of saving society from dire consequences; the political opposition has resorted to the “we-they” dichotomy in arguing against governments in an effort to attract the electorate; society itself becomes more polar in its views, since each individual in one way or another uses the Christian practice of searching for truth within himself, and as a result either categorically denies the current policies of states through distrust of the opinions of scientists and the government, or supports politics through recognition of humanistic dogmatism. Thus, the modern pandemic of the new coronavirus poses new rules for the global community that can be challenged by citizens in search of a new status quo of modern politics. The study of further reactions to societies in European democracies in this situation may be the subject of further research.
