Effects of Communist Past on Women's Empowerment in the Economic Sphere

The thesis investigates the effect of communist legacy on women's empowerment in the economic sphere among former socialist countries. It describes a unique conjuncture among Post-Communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Soviet Republics, wherewith the process of regime transformation, gender employment gap has broadened unlike in other parts of the World. The study examines the impact of the Communist legacy on women's representation in top management firms in post-Communist countries, as well as the impact of communism on women's economic rights in General. The study adopts a comprehensive quantitative approach, revealing intriguing discrepancies as a result. Findings bring in the new understanding of the subject that has not been studied empirically at several levels simultaneously.
