The bachelor thesis focuses on the use of the concept of the conquest of the North / Arctic in the research and educational activities of scientific institutions in the period of 1920 –1958 in USSR. This period covers the time from the organization of the Northern Scientific and Field Expedition at Supreme Soviet of the National Economy on March 4, 1920 till a new turn in the history of research Institute – focusing on Antarctic research. The aim of this work is to identify ways of constructing a discourse of the conquest of the North at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, AARI, the main research center of the Arctic region in the Soviet Union, in Chief Directorate of the Northern Sea Route (GUSMP) and also in the museum of Arctic in Leningrad. The object of this work is the archival documents of the institute, articles and memoirs of employees. The subject of research can be described as ways of constructing the concept of “conquering the North / Arctic” in the USSR in the period from 1920 to the end of the 1950s. The work consists of an introduction, three chapters, each of which consists of several subitems, conclusion, list of sources and literature used in the study.
