Currently, football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Multibillion-dollar television contracts, huge prize money for participating in European competitions prompted the management of football clubs to more carefully develop the club’s development strategy, as well as achieve high efficiency in achieving sports results. In this paper, an analysis of factors affecting the performance of football clubs in the Russian Premier League was carried out. The study is based on a database of football clubs that participated in one or more football seasons in the Russian Premier League from 2012 to 2019. As a result of the use of stochastic frontier analysis, a negative relationship was found between the change of the head coach and the effectiveness of the football club. This work supports a growing body of research on football and may find practical application in the field of Russian football.
