This Master Thesis is a research about the process of deinstitutionalizing orphanages, changes in the field of family care for orphans and the role of SOS Children’s Villages' activity in Russia and Italy in these processes. There also was compared Russian and Italian care placement options for orphaned children and their history in this field. In the Thesis the attempt to describe the difference in approaches of Russian and Italian SOS Children’s Villages as social institutions is made.
