With the spread of globalization, new opportunities for foreign direct investment have emerged and, along with opportunities, competition among countries for these limited global resources has also increased. This paper shows that not the least role in this competition plays the people’s perception of the country through the media. Particularly, the better is the image of Russia in the foreign media the more the investment it receives. One of the explanations of this effect could be the investor’s confidence in the stable situation in the country, that is no “bad” news about the country are reported. This study draws attention of Russian policymakers to the need for the deeper investigation of the country’s image in the foreign media for the successful attracting of the foreign investment which gives an abundant amount of beneficial effects.
