In the contemporary world, fans are the main driving force in sports. At the same time, fan movements in the context of deviant behavior are a problem for society. The phenomenon of football hooliganism is widespread in foreign studies. There are a number of studies of football groups in the UK, Italy, and the countries of the Balkan Peninsula. But considering the behavior of Russian fan groups number of investigations is unreasonably small. This research paper addresses the basic mechanisms by which fans explain violent behavior. The purpose of this work is to reveal the key features of the culture of violence in the context of the movement of football fans on the fan "scene" of St. Petersburg. The study used 11 semi-structured interviews with active Zenit fans who are members of the “Virazh” fan community. Ultimately, the results showed that active fans have reproducible violent practices that can be reflected in various sociocultural aspects. Key words: culture of violence; football fans; "scene"; hegemonic masculinity.
