This work is devoted to the research of the experience of galleries in the context of Russian creative industries.Today, cultural policy in Russia does not provide sufficient support to creative sectors. However, creative production is maintained by private initiatives. The research of the context of creative industries allowed us to characterize the cultural and art sector of St. Petersburg, as well as consider the gallery function in its context. Existing studies of the art market emphasize the central role of galleries in promotion of art and common values expressed by contemporary artists. Based on qualitative research and interviews with gallery representatives, the work identifies the typology of modern galleries in St. Petersburg and demonstrates various positioning strategies inherent in each type. The organizational features of St. Petersburg galleries are emphasized. An important skill that the gallery owner, curator or gallery owner should possess is affirmed - this is the ability to build a high-quality network of contacts. The conclusions obtained as a result of this study are of practical importance for the work of art institutions.
