This research deals with an urgent and important issue of relationships between the Russian Orthodox Church and museums in Russia. Relationships between these two institutions revolve around the need for religious cultural heritage preservation, since religious facilities may be not only of religious but also cultural value. The dual nature of religious values was spread with the distinction of the religious institutions from the power structures. Given the relative weakness of the institution of religion at the current moment, which is dramatically apparent in the museum’s control over religious objects, the church is forced to make contact with the secular world. In the case of the memorial church, it was investigated how the Orthodox community handles with supervision by the museum and other secular institutions and what practices it develops in order to maintain contact with the profane world.
