Adapting Materials of International English Language Exams at a University (a Сase of HSE University’s Undergraduate Programmes)

Abstract. This work is devoted to the possibilities of adapting materials of international exams in English at a university as a form of language assessment. The HSE Independent English Language Test is a case of such implementation and an object of research in this paper. Seven international tests on proficiency in English were analysed. Studying additional materials and procedures for conducting other international exams allowed the creation of an effective strategy for improving the HSE IELT, its organisation, format, and preparation process. Key words: language assessment, language proficiency exams, ESOL, IELTS, NRU HSE.
