Tasks: identification of theories and concepts describing patterns of perception of space, formation of the image of the city (district); - identification of General patterns of modernist development, including modernist development of the 60-70s in the Soviet Union; - analysis of unique solutions used in the creation of the first experimental quarter, comparison of design solutions with their actual implementation and preservation at the moment; - identification of the facts of understanding these decisions by the residents of the quarter; - determining the facts of using unique solutions; This paper examines the perception of residents Of the Experimental quarter of the Modernist era of design solutions and ideas laid down by its authors. The first Chapter analyses foreign and domestic experience in designing and creating modernist buildings. The author reveals the historical background to its emergence, ideas and best practices that were embedded and transmitted in it. In the second Chapter, the theories and concepts of space perception were analysed, and the concept of the image of a place and territory was considered. The third Chapter examines the historical path of modernism in Leningrad-Saint Petersburg. The historical background of the project Of the first Experimental Quarter is revealed, its solutions are considered with their analysis for compliance with the ideas of modernism. The main block of work is a qualitative study of the perception of the quarter through in-depth interviews and analysis of social networks. The result of the research is the conclusion that there is a high correlation between the ideas of the authors of such quarters and the key ideas of modernism and the perception of the residents Of the first Experimental Quarter. The perception of many unique technological and ideological solutions is confirmed. These conclusions are particularly important in light of the growing public debate about the value of the legacy of Soviet modernism.
