Institutional Ownership and US Firms’ Innovations

This research aimed to investigate the influence of institutional investor ownership on corporate innovations. To achieve this goal, we prepared a comprehensive literature review on the determinants of corporate innovations, the corporate problems of different incentives of managers and institutional investors and the ways to overcome them with the available mechanisms by institutional investors’ ownership presence. Also we investigated the differences of institutional investors’ types, suggested methodology to test hypotheses on the anticipated effect of institutional investors ownership on R&D expenditures and patents. Finally, we understood the effect of total institutional ownership in a company, blockholder ownership, the effect of numerous blockholders, the effects of different institutions by their legal types combined in several groups based on the anticipated effect according to literature analysis.
