e Renaissance was marked by a rapid growth of urban development in Italy. Urban architecture in the Renaissance begins to be thought of as an important and, most importantly, a peculiar element of people's daily life. For the first time, there were the attempts to solve problems which are specific to the city, to bring everyday life of citizens to a certain mathematically calculated harmony. At the same time, from the XIII century, the gradual spread of the Signori regime began, by the XV century covering a large territory of Northern Italy. This research is aimed at identifying the features of the relationship between the development of urban space in the Italian Signorias of the Renaissance and the artistic policy of their rulers. The work offers a comparison of key urban development projects carried out on the territories of the most influential Signorias of Northern Italy: Milan, Ferrara and Mantua - with the goals of the artistic policy of the dynasties d'Este, Visconti, Sforza and Gonzaga, identifying common and variable features of urban development strategies.
