This research paper analyzes the speech of animals in Russian and German folk tales about animals based on text collections by Afanasyev and brothers Grimm. For the analysis of speech, eight main and most common animals of Russian and German fairy tales were selected. The purpose of the study is to determine the differences in the speech of different types of characters in Russian and German animal tales. Speech analysis was carried out on the basis of studying a sample of replicas of each of the analyzed animals according to certain criteria. As a result of the study, it was found that the speech characteristics of animals of German tales are significantly different from the characteristics of speech of animals in Russian tales. Correlations in the speech characteristics of the characters and the individual characteristics of the speech of each of the characters allowed to describe the artistic images of the characters, many of which also vary significantly.
