It is quite difficult to deny the fact that the current image of a vampire in the 21st century is based on novels and films made for a teenage audience. The vampire turned from a bloodthirsty and cruel monster to an attractive and humane young man, capable of sincere feelings towards his beloved one. This work aims to analyze modern novels in the genre of fantasy for teenagers Twilight by Stephanie Mayer and The Vampire Diaries by Lisa Jane Smith and describe the image of a new vampire, to determine how it differs from similar folk and literary creatures before the twentieth century. The text that influenced subsequent representations is taken from the novel Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice. The proposed text also emphasizes the influence of fiction about vampires on various forms of modern art that use that image.
