Children’s literature plays a prominent role in a child’s personality development. This is the primary reason why the research of censorship against translations in this genre is extremely significant and interesting. The objective of the paper is the study of children’s literature in context with the aim of identifying prohibitions and difficulties in the area of book distribution. With the goal to detect particular qualities of a modern perception of the censorship phenomenon, the next objective is to explore its historical background. The secondary objective is to determine major translation transformations used in censorship and adaptation. The research is based on studies by prominent scholars like Blum, Modestov, Zhirkov and Komissarov. Apart from scientific literature, it also uses articles, round tables, interviews with modern translators and publishers. Two interviews were taken during the process of the preparation of this paper. Practical part of the research consists of the comparative analysis of the “Catcher in the Rye” by Jerome Salinger and “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by Frank Baum. As the results of the research conclusions are made about the censorship’s background and the complexity of its phenomenon in the process of children’s literature distribution.
