Sexism in the Literature for Children

The paper discusses cases of gender discrimination in the literature for children. The purpose of the study can be called identifying the mechanisms by which a person adopts a particular gender stereotypes from books read in childhood. The main research method is working with literary texts written for children - a series of books about Neznayka (or Dunno in English adaptation) by Nikolai Nosov and other authors, as well as working with theoretical books on gender psychology and sociology. The paper consists of several parts: firstly, a description of the gender balance in books, and secondly, a detailed analysis of the female and then the male characters from the point of view of their behavior, communication with others, speech characteristics, choice of words by which the author describes them and the separation of gender roles. . In conclusion will be highlighted the main female and male images of the books, as well as a generalized ideals of both sexes. Accordingly, the reader will see the difference between role models that are offered for girls and boys.
