Social live streaming services are the platforms where a new media format named «stream» is implemented. A stream is an online broadcast where the streamer (broadcaster) usually plays video games and communicates with the audience. Becoming a new practice of everyday life for many people, this format is a kind of substitute for conventional television. A streamer who constructs a new media space becomes a new agent of socialization which is quite contradictory. At the same time, the forms of communication and mechanisms of interaction between people are changing. Who is hiding behind the mask of a streamer? What are the motives for his/her activities? Which methods does he/she use to gain audience loyalty? I will try to answer these and other questions in this paper. Key words: Streamer, stream, SLSS, self-presentation, communication, motivation, audience engagement, audience retention, interaction.
