The paper touches upon the problem of alcohol consumption by Russian youth. In theoretical section various approaches to the analysis of alcohol consumption are discussed, consumer typologies and factors affecting alcohol consumption are presented. The connection between the concepts of modern Russian youth and the generation of millennials is determined. In addition, on the basis of three concepts of modernity - new capitalism (R. Sennet), digimodernism (A. Kirby) and auto-modernism (R. Samuels) - three specific for millenials generation factors are proposed - confidence one's future, involvement in communication and meetings with friends and involvement in usage of online social networks, respectively. The 25th wave of the RLMS of the Higher School of Economics (2016) is used as the database. A typology of young alcohol consumers is proposed: (1) stronger drinks lovers, (2) everywhere drinkers, (3) drinkers with friends/company, (4) moderate drinkers, (5) "beer at home" lovers, (6) low-drinkers and (7) non-drinkers/abstainers. Effects of specific to millennials generation factors that can influence alcohol consumption are tested. Of these factors, only confidence in one's future has a positive effect on the decision of young person to sometimes or regularly drink alcohol.
