Year of Graduation: 2020

The paper describes the functions of idioms in A. Blok's poetry. The types of Blok's purposeful formal and semantic transformations of usual idioms are reflected in the first chapter. The second chapter depicts Blok's use of idioms for associating and contrasting the parts of his texts. In addition, light is thrown on how transformed idioms "synthesize" plot events or metaphorical themes. The study shows that the poet's employment of idioms may be viewed as a sylistic and semantic device and should be taken into consideration when analyzing Blok's texts.
