Psychoanalysis of Public Speaking

Student: Tugushev Sergey

Supervisor: Svetlana Fedorova

Faculty: Faculty of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Business Consulting (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2020

In this work, the author develops his own psychoanalytic method of preparing a speaker. The main emphasis is on the study of unconscious limitations that interfere with quality performance. Practical work with real clients in preparation for public speaking is shown. The paper substantiates the importance of detecting unconscious limitations, their interpretation and further understanding of these processes during the preparation of the speaker. The author conducts the preparation itself in three planes: the psychoanalytic plane of inquiry and unconscious limitations, the plane of practical tools (trainer's format) and the plane of unconscious resistance. The maximum result is achieved by high-quality work in all planes, when the client is aware of his unconscious limitations and his unused resource, fulfills the performance using classical coaching tools and works out the unconscious resistance that occurs during the transformation process. The work shows that using psychoanalytic techniques, a specialist can help his client achieve high-quality, long-term, and not temporary, as in classical trainings, changes in public speaking. Keywords: psychoanalysis, public speaking, speaker, transference, countertransference, fear of public speaking.
