While the effect of retirement on health has been widely investigated in both economic and non-economic literature, there is still no certain conclusion on the topic. Considering the resent postponement of retirement age in Russia and lack of papers on the effect of retirement on health in this country, it is important to look into this matter. Using RLMS longitudinal data, we investigate the effect of retirement on self-reported health of Russian women. We apply difference-in-difference and propensity score matching to estimate the net effect of retirement on health after potential endogeneity is controlled for. The main results show positive but insignificant effect of retirement of women’s health. Additional estimation on the samples of men and women of pre-retirement age give the opposite result for men.
