Poetics of Images of Love Lyrics by Else Lasker-Schüler

The present graduation paper is devoted to the analysis of images of Love lyrics by Else Lasker-Schüler – one of the most remarkable phenomena of German modernist literature of the 20th century. The works of the poetess is usually considered within the framework of expressionist movement, but her early poetry tends to the literary traditions of Jugendstil and symbolism, which were actively developed at the turn of the century. In the center of the research are several focuses of analysis E. Lasker-Schüler’s Love images: intertextuality and motives, color symbolism, and synaesthetic metaphor, considered by us as one of the main methods of constructing images in the poetics of poetess. Combining the signs and phenomena of the sensory spheres of perception, the poetess managed to construct the inner world of the artist in her poetry. This study takes into account the cultural and historical context in the German-speaking space of the turn of the century, as well as the features of the Jewish cultural tradition, without which the analysis of the phenomenon of the creative writing by E. Lasker-Schüler would have been impossible.
