This paper is devoted to the research on the application of design thinking methodology while designing industry-specific solutions based on ERP class systems. The first chapter provides an overview of the main concepts the methodology, such as the definition and the core of "design thinking", its stages and applied strategies, methods and tools. The second chapter is focused on the application of the approach in the area of software development. It outlines the aspects, such as the role of design thinking in requirements engineering and the combination of design thinking and agile methodologies. Furthermore, it contains an overview of the experience of applying the methodology by the largest IT vendors, such as IBM, SAP, Microsoft. The third chapter reflects the practical application of the methodology while designing industry solutions based on corporate information systems. Also, it offers and justifies the modification of the basic master implementation process proposed by Microsoft through integrating the design thinking approach into it.
