The main question that is discussed in this thesis is how the theme of regional identity is revealed in the works of Scottish, Irish and Welsh literature of the early twentieth century. The research focuses on those kind of works that were frequently understood as «anti-national», because of distraction of the positive image of each region of the United Kingdom that were mentioned above. First, the author of this thesis analyzes the cultural and historical context of the works. It is made to show several intersections between the works. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the inhabitants of Ireland, Scotland and Wales face one set of problems because of similar political, economic and social changes; thus, all this issues were reflected in the literature and works under consideration. The author demonstrates that Evans, brown and Joyce rely on the same aspects of the traditional way of life in the regions of the United Kingdom. Finally, the final part of the work examines the poetics of regional identity, which determines the uniqueness of each region.
