The language of fashion of the Rococo era in Russia has been poorly studied until now in the humanities. This theme is interesting both from the point of view of fashion history and language history and its closer consideration can shed light on the issue of the existence of the art style of Rococo in Russia of the first third of the 18th century. The given research aims at studying the language of fashion, drawing on the detailed information on Rococo fashion presented in the chosen source - A List of things to Their Royal Highnesses Princess of 1727. The current research was conducted with the use of the contextual approach to commenting on the source, as well as the method of close reading for the detailed analysis of terms of the language of fashion. Thanks to the reference literature this study was able to establish the meaning of the terms that had not been studied before. Having looked into the few previous studies on Russian Rococo, the hypothesis of the conflict between an authentic culture and a borrowed one was put forward, and an attempt was made to describe possible solutions to this cultural conflict. Thus, the study offers a new perspective on Rococo culture in Russia.
