This paper analyzes the determinants that affect the amount of premiums paid in M&A transactions using the sample of companies from European emerging countries. The sample consists of 106 observations and is represented by transactions from European developing countries, carried out over the time period from January 1, 2010 to March 1, 2020. Comparing to previous works, this work is the first to test the impact of the corporate governance quality of the target company on the amount of premiums paid in the markets of European emerging countries. After the provided analysis, it was found in the work that the hostile type of transaction, the growth potential of the target company and the high quality of corporate governance of the target company positively affect the size of premiums in M&A transactions for European developing countries.
