This thesis analyses the features of femininity and childishness of the main characters of The Notes of a Psychopath and Moscow-Petushki by Venedikt Erofeev. In particular, this work researches into the influence of the female and child images on Venichka. For this reason, the study is based on the biographical method, C.G. Jung’s archetype theory, the comparative method, descriptive method and the method of close reading. The results show that the psyche of Venichka combines feminine and childish elements, as is proved by the application of Jung’s theory. Besides, the two interacting systems of female and child images affect the protagonists’ consciousness and self-reflection, the analysis of which helps explicate a number of distinctive features of Erofeev’s poetics. The results of the study may provide a framework for further research of Erofeev’s fiction.
