Authorship between Media and Economics: Publishing Fanfiction Literature in Russia

This work is devoted to the phenomenon of fanfiction literature publishing. Fanfiction is, non-professional, non-commercial fan literature, but now several times a year, the AST publishing house releases books from the «Wattpad Hits» series, which are «originals», offshoots of fanfiction. This fact makes the issue of fanfiction publishing relevant. The paper describes fanfiction as a phenomenon: its origin and a detailed description of the genre classification. It brings the question of distinguishing the original as a separate type of web-literature. The work specifies reasons for cooperation between publishers and authors from the Internet. It also analyzes the genre transformation of fan fiction on the way from web to paper format. The work raises question about the changed role of the reader in publishing process and the literary world. There is a brief comparative analysis of scientific approaches to the study of fan fiction in Russian and English literature is conducted at the end of the paper.
