The present work is devoted to the study of the relationship between the choice of ways to resolve a difficult life situation (DLS) and personal characteristics of a person. The problem of the work is the lack of theoretical studies on the relationship between the four ways of responding in difficult life situations (coping, defense, overcoming, self-destruction) and personality adaptations according to P. Ware and V. Joines. The paper provides a theoretical overview of the methods of handling DLS and personality adaptations, and also substantiates the alleged relationship between them. During an empirical study, the created theoretical model was tested. Respondents were asked to fill questionnaires to determine how they respond in DLS and their personality adaptations. Differences were found in the use of available methods of dealing with difficult life situations by representatives of six personality adaptations.
