Abstract An analytical approach to defining interpretation is to interpret messages from the unconscious to the conscious: to serve as an interpreter between the two people, between the analyst, their patient and “the third”, the unconscious of the latter. There are numerous forms of interpretation accepted by analysts; some focus on their definition, arrangement and classification. Interpretation always exists when the analyst brings the latent closer to overt manifestation, connects them, brings the unconscious back to the conscious. Interpretation is the object of the present work by O.A. Mazunina. The aim is to study interpretation in psychanalysis. The problem of interpretation in classical Freudian and modern French and British psychanalysis was analyzed in the work. Key words Interpretation, countertransference, interpretation and countertransference of the analyst, passivity and activity of interpretation, metapsychology of interpretation.
