Factors Influencing the Attraction of Foreign Students to NRU HSE Economics and Management Specialties

The number of international students is an important indicator of a university’s performance. As of 2019, there are more than 300000 international students in Russia. Business and Management is the 2nd most attractive field of study after engineering programmes. This paper analyses the factors that influenced foreign students to come study at the Faculty of Business and Management, NRU HSE. The author aims to develop recommendations for the NRU HSE Faculty representatives to increase international students’ presence at the university. The first part of the paper is dedicated to the analysis of research literature on international students’ choice of higher education institutions. The second part involves a study of foreign management students at NRU HSE: why they chose the Faculty of Business and Management and level of their satisfaction with the university. The results of the research reveal attractiveness of management related programmes at Higher School of Economics among foreign applicants. Practical implications to NRU HSE marketing among foreign students’ attraction are discussed, and effective measures are suggested to increase international student recruitment of the Faculty.
