This study explores the mechanisms of stigmatization of people living with HIV. A theoretical analysis of the mechanisms of stigma has been conducted. It also developed a theoretical model of stigma in the framework of a person-centred approach and tested the hypothesis about the role of the experience of the first disclosure of information about one's disease on the expression of internal stigma. The study used quantitative data analysis methods and qualitative content analysis of respondents' responses. The main hypothesis of the study was not confirmed - the reaction of a proxy in response to the first act of disclosure of the diagnosis has no significant impact on the further severity and content of the internal HIV-stigma.
