Interconnection of Individual Personality Traits and Forms of the Handling Difficult Life Situations (DLS)

In this study, the theoretical foundations of the relationship of personal characteristics and copings, as a form of dealing with a difficult life situation, were analyzed, and an empirical study was carried out, including two questionnaires and processing of statistical data using the method of correlation analysis. The first chapter examined in detail the types and definitions of resolving difficult life situations from different sources, the model of forms of dealing with difficult life situations, a short excursion into the history of research on the problem of resolving difficult life situations, as well as copying, as one of the forms of dealing with difficult life situations, personal characteristics discussed in this paper, ideas about the possible impact of various personal characteristics on the form of handling coping situations in difficult life situations. The second chapter and applications present the results of empirical studies on a sample of 115 people aged 21 to 81 years (95 wives and 20 men). Research methods: Shortened Multifactor Questionnaire for Personality Research (SMOL, Zaitsev V.P., 1981), Russian-language adaptation of the COPE questionnaire by K. Carver, M. Scheyer and J. Weintraub (version by E.I. Rasskazova, T.O. Gordeeva and E .N. Aspen, 2013). According to the results of the study, the main hypothesis that there is a weak relationship between individual coping strategies and individual personality characteristics was confirmed. Private hypothesis No. 1: coping strategy positive reformulation and personality growth is associated with personality traits depression, hysteria, mania partially confirmed. Weak but significant negative correlations between depression, hysteria, and hypochondria have been established. Communication with mania has not been confirmed. Private hypothesis No. 2: the coping strategy of behavioral avoidance of the problem is associated with personality traits: depression, paranoia, mania partially confirmed. The connections are weak but significant.
