Justice and Unjustice in Dante's Florence

Florence in the late XIII - early XIV centuries experienced great social upheaval. Permanent social conflicts made citizens reflect on justice on the pages of narrative sources. Based on the materials of the chronicles of Dino Compagni and Giovanni Villani, we identified the main signs of Florentine ideas about justice. They are almost identical to the ideas of the largest Christian theologians: Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas. The justice in the eyes of the Florentines is based on high morality, social peace and respect for the rule of law.
