The Evolution of the American Young Adult Novel Genre in the XX-XXI centuries (a Case Study of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.Salinger, "The Outsiders" by S. Hinton, "The Fault in Our Stars" by J.Green)

The present research aims to trace the evolution of the young adult novel genre in the XX – XXI centuries in USA literature tradition in order to define converted aspects of the young adult novel and to point out its essential features. Therefore, the study compares key texts of the young adult novel genre, which are J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, J. Green’s The Fault in Our Stars and other works of young adult literature authors. The specific features of the genre were identified by texts’ collation. As a result the main modifications of the classic XXth century young adult novel in XXIth century books of the same genre were revealed, such as the teenager literary type transformation, the sophistication of the chronotope, the empowerment of intertextuality and the modification of the young adult novel’s structure and themes.
