This paper examines the differences in the requirements for hiring IT professionals in Russia and in the United States. Data was taken from the largest Russian job placement site hh.ru and a major American site careerjet.com. For the analysis the jobs were divided into the groups basing on the countries, classes of professions and position levels. During the process, vacancies were analyzed in terms of educational requirements, experience, and technical skills. In addition, it was analyzed how similar are the occupational classes within the country. As a result of the work, it was found out that the requirement for education and experience is more common in the United States than in Russia, and the number of required years of experience is significantly higher in the United States. At the same time, technical skills in job descriptions are more common in Russia than in the United States. As a result, I conclude that in the United States, employers are more likely to use experience as a way to measure a candidate's professionalism. The required number of years of experience is also a fundamental factor in the difference between the requirements for candidates in the countries observed.
