The Determinants of the Effectiveness of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Oil & Gas Industry

M&A deals in the oil and gas industry do not pay back the money invested in them, and many merged companies lose their competitiveness in the oil and gas market. The purpose of the study is to identify the determinants of the effectiveness of mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas industry at the present stage. The results of the study characterize the peculiarities of the stock market's reaction to mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas industry. In addition, the results of the study can be used by oil and gas companies. Using this analysis, companies can choose the most attractive investment areas. As a result of the research: 1. the impact of global oil prices on the effectiveness of mergers and acquisitions was assessed on data covering the period from 2010-2019. 2. the impact of cross-border transactions on the effectiveness of mergers and acquisitions on data covering the post-crisis period of the world economy was studied 3.the significant impact of the buyer's oil and gas reserves on the effectiveness of mergers and acquisitions was revealed on data covering the period from 2016-2019 for developed and developing countries.
