The Influence of Global Trends In Business Intelligence on the Formation of Analyst Competencies

Abstract The paper is devoted to the business intelligence (BI) global trends influence on the BI analyst‘s competences. This relationship defines the BI effectiveness in terms of competitiveness and operational efficiency of the BI systems employment as well as the decision-making guidances’ quality. The relevance of the topic is determined by the rapid technologies’ development and their business applications, automation of decision-making process under a human supervision. The human factor affects the value of decision support, but the impact of user and entity features on the BI systems performance has been little studied yet. This paper attempts to fill the gap. The situation in the global BI market in 2012-2019, its segmentation, growth peculiarities and prospects for 2019-2016 are considered, the market forecast for 2020 and the BI tools evolution is provided. The paper studies organizational and personal competencies with the impact on the entity BI resources’ employment, proposes an organizational competencies’ maturity assessment model by TDWI. The research of micro-level processes and a competency’s organizational impact flashing the key personal competencies (cognitive style, individual abilities and skills, and knowledge). A theory of analytical cognitive style, firm skills and knowledge as BI critical influencers is confirmed. Besides, the evolution of BI competency centers (SSC, BICC, ACC) as integrational nodes is considered. The trend-competency correlation effect on BI ROI is verified. The analysis results are validated by the prognostic reports of well-established sources (Gartner, BARC, IDC etc.). An online survey was also conducted among HSE students on the subject “Competency Model of Business Intelligence Analytics”. The paper sourced from the substantive resources.
