Anisotropic Magnetoresistance in Bismuth Chalcogenide Single Crystals

Student: Bannikov Mikhail

Faculty: Faculty of Physics

Educational Programme: Physics (Master)

Final Grade: 10

Year of Graduation: 2020

Magnetotransport measurements were performed on a series of SrxBi2Te3 single crystals and on undoped Bi2Te3 single crystals. XRD and SEM studies have shown high crystalline quality and uniform composition of the crystals. Most of the crystals exhibit p-type conductivity and metallic behaviour of resistivity. Contrary to the lattice symmmetry all p-type crystals demonstrate a distinct fourth harmonic in magnetoresistance when the field is rotated in basal plane. Several possible explanations for this anisotropy are presented.
