This work is devoted to the problem of social regulation of the ratio of "private" and "public" in the situation of temporary cohabitation. Descriptions of social interaction practices and rituals were proposed focusing on the key foundations of variability in student interaction strategies using Irving Goffman's optics. In addition, the mechanisms of establishing and protecting social order in conditions of cohabitation were revealed and the factors regulation of students' behavior in a hostel were identified. The perception of the boundaries of "private" and "public" within the framework of this paper was rethought in an actual theoretical context based on empirical material.
