This work is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of the metaphysics of instrumental music in the works of one of the greatest musicologists of the 20th century - Сarl Dahlhaus. The phenomenon of the metaphysics of instrumental music falls within the framework of the idea of absolute music, the roots of which historically go back to the late 18th - early 19th centuries, but formulated as an intellectual concept by Dahlhaus in 1978. This work establishes a list of issues that include the metaphysical nature of instrumental music, outlined by young romantics: Hoffmann, Wackenroder, Schlegel, Hanslick, etc. This work also contains a translation of Carl Dahlhaus's essay "Metaphysics of instrumental music".
