Abstract The main objective of this final qualification paper is the research on existing mechanisms to store and process encrypted data on OS Linux, the development and testing of software which allows users to process LUKS1-volumes using Russian encryption algorithms without root privileges. The solution to the problem described above includes: - research on disk encryption theory; - research on disk encryption utilities on Linux systems; - research on existing implementations of Russian encryption algorithms and the possibility of their usage in disk encryption utilities on Linux systems; - development of software for encrypting data containers with Russian encryption algorithms on Linux systems; - testing of the developed software. Based on research results, an utility was developed which allows users to encrypt, decrypt and reencrypt the content of LUKS1-volumes, as well as manage the key information of such volumes using Russian and other encryption algorithms. The research results can also be used for further research and improvement of existing open-source software so as to expand the list of available encryption algorithms and modes.
