Educational Programme: Double degree programme in International Relations of the NRU HSE and the University of London (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

Russia and Germany have recently been moving further away from each other. Despite the rapid interaction and development of cooperation in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, there were times when countries faced misunderstandings. Each time, it became more difficult to continue the interaction at the same level. By 2021, relations between Russia and Germany have reached the greatest discord since the Cold War. The purpose of this paper is to identify the causes of this process, as well as make an attempt to describe the factors that can return relations between countries to a higher level of mutual understanding. In order to achieve this goal, this paper uses an analysis of official publications, an interview with an expert, and numerical indicators of cooperation between Germany and Russia in various fields. As a result, the key directions for the development of mutual relations are determined.
